Goldencard (IRE) 2013 – SOLD

2013 Bay Gelding by Golden Lariat

We brought Goldencard over from Ireland with the intention of running him in a Point-to-point after seeing his encouraging form in 3 Irish points with Denis Murphy, first handler of Finian’s Oscar. The first of which is extremely eye-catching.

On 12th April at Inch he was 6 lengths 2nd to a horse called Chooseyourweapon who has since won two Chepstow Novice Hurdles and 4th in a Grade 2 hurdle at Warwick for Evan Williams and is rated 134. The horse behind Goldencard that day, Turtle Wars has won a maiden hurdle and is rated 124. The winner was sold for £210,000 to Evan Williams at Cheltenham in April. The 3rd was owned by Potensis and is now with Nicky Henderson and the 4th is a Gigginstown House Stud horse. The winner got a whopping rating of 94+ that day.

We brought him over to England just before Christmas with the intention of running him in an English point, which we did last weekend at Larkhill. The going was soft after morning rain which made quite testing conditions.

22 runners were declared on the day, the race was divided and we ended up in the quicker division by 4 seconds. (Quicker than both opens and the Intermediate which is quite remarkable) Goldencard led with a mighty leap at the ditch 3-out and was only beaten by an older/stronger horse with good placed form behind a Tom Lacey newcomer a few weeks prior. He jumps for fun and jockey Will Biddick reported that he was brilliant at times.

He is by Golden Lariat, sire of staying chasers with Alan King, Dingo Dollar & Tim Vaughan Fayette County. In time, he is sure to become a staying chaser himself as he jumps the bigger obstacles so well and I am convinced this 5yo can only improve physically once some condition can be put back on him.
