2013 Bay Gelding by Milan
Timcoda is a 5yo gelding by Milan (Sire of Grand National Winner, One For Arthur, who I bought after running in 5 Irish maidens). His dam is a half-sister to the great Champion French staying chaser, Mid Dancer, who won an amazing 25 races, including 5 Grade 1’s and £2.6million!
He has run respectably 3 times in Irish points, placed on each occasion, last time 14 lengths behind Trevelyn’s Corn who we had to go to £400k to get at the last Cheltenham Sale. This maiden was run in almost unraceable conditions and the fact that it was faster than any other race on the day shows they went a proper gallop, taking into account his race was on heavy ground when the track had been cut up is a big positive. You can see for yourself, the lying snow and it must have been a close run thing that the meeting went ahead. Only one bookmaker made it to the gig! That says it all.
The Irish Point to Point formbook said the following:
‘This division of the 4yo geldings maiden produced an impressive winner in a time four seconds faster than the opening divide.
TIMCODA (IRE) was not done any favours by a mistake four-out, however that ultimately made little impact to the eventual result. He was running a big race up the home straight, before his stamina reserves gave way. He may be one that could be suited by a drop back in trip.’
When you watch the video of his last run, you will see that his connections simply can’t understand that his stamina at 3 miles is in question, he drops the bridle with his ears pricked and has a lovely way of sizing up a fence, in the main jumping safely and economically. There is a definite feeling of middle-distance in his pedigree (his half brother won over 2m 5f under rules) and that is backed up by his style of running so far in points where he has featured prominently before not quite seeming to get the full 3 mile trip at this stage in his life. He may get it in time, after-all, Mid Dancer won over the bare 2 miles initially and didn’t win over 3 miles until he had 2 years of racing experience. Also Milan, of course has sired a Grand National winner.
He stands at 16’2, moves well, has a good willing outlook in everything he does and is a nice well put together model. I have bought him and he arrived this morning.
