(2018) Ocovango Gelding

(2018) Ocovango Gelding

2018 Ocovango gelding x Gaye Native

This gelding was sourced from the coveted Derby Sale in June.  I bought him on-spec, took him home to be broken-in and he has taken everything in his stride and is jumping and being ridden out daily.

As you can see, he is a lovely, well-balanced, loose mover and a very likeable character.  His pedigree, nurtured by Mercy Rimell over the years, contains Champion Hurdler Gaye Brief and more recently winners of the Racing Post Trophy, Kerry National, Irish Grand National and many other staying races.  He is out of an un-raced full-sister to Hometown Boy who was unbeaten in two races this season, winning the stayers handicap hurdle at the Aintree Festival for Stuart Edmunds.

His relatively new Coolmore sire, Ocovango, is by Monsun (beaten only 2 lengths in both the English and French Derby’s for Andre Fabre) and he very nearly had a Cheltenham Festival winner this year in Dan Skelton’s Langer Dan.  He has also already had two Irish pointers sell for six figure sums at Cheltenham that went to Gordon Elliott.

He has been very easy to look after and I look forward to seeing him start his career on the track.
